The basics

Drafting in Adobe Illustrator

In this series of tutorials, I explain a bit about Adobe Illustrator, how to download/buy it and how it can be used to draft digital patterns and, essentially, follow our pattern cutting courses. It’s really important that you get to know this software platform since we use it to customise all of our ePatterns! Don’t worry, it’s a wonderfully simple platform to use and I’ll give you step by step instructions until you’re a seasoned pro!

Adding seam allowance to an ePattern

This tutorial is an absolute must have! You will need to watch it before you can start customising your basic blocks into new designs or patterns, using our courses and tutorials. If you’ve ever added seam allowance to a paper pattern you will know how long and tricky this process can be. Well, not in Adobe illustrator, in fact it’s quite a satisfying process.

Printing an ePattern

This is another extremely important tutorial that you should really watch! In this tutorial I teach you how to transfer your customised basic block or ePattern onto a template file, allowing to save it as a multipage PDF in a variety of paper sizes. This allows you to print your full size custom pattern either from your home printer or via a print shop.
